kajeet - cell phones for kids!

As a parent, the thought of your child with a cell phone can be quite scary. However, kajeet makes your child having a cell phone fun, safe, and real easy to manage! It is actually the first pay-as-you-go cell phone created just for families and offers tons of customizable features.

One of the coolest things about kajeet is the configurator feature. It helps you customize and configure your phone and service to meet the unique needs of you and your family. In the configurator, there is a time manager which lets you determine when the phone can and can't be used (like during study hours or after bedtime); a contact manager which lets you determine who can call or text the phone; an account activity manager which lets you know how much time is spent on calls, downloads or games; and a wallet manager which lets you manage how much money is on the account.

kajeet also allows you to set up parent and child wallets to give you better control over spending on the account. In addition, it helps you decide who pays for calls and services (great way to teach kids financial responsibility), transfer money from parent's wallet to child's wallet (great for allowances or a reward for grades), and to setup automatic transfers for when the account balance is low.

Our family tried the sleek and stylish blue Sanyo Katano (pictured above). The phone featured a digital zoom camera, speakerphone, picture messaging, a large main screen and of course call screening (you can listen to a caller while a message is being left on your phone). It was very easy to use and the preloaded wallpapers and ringtones were hip & colorful. I love that everything can be tracked especially call logs, account balances, and which features were being used. Also, calls to 900 & 976 numbers are automatically blocked.

I definitely recommend kajeet to families with kids. My little fashionista Brianna is only 2, but I used the phone with my 14 year-old niece this past week. She told me that she had a blast using the kajeet phone and playing fun games. She also mentioned that she is waiting on me to refill her wallet, too :)

So, how much does all of these great features cost? The service is competively priced and includes 5 cents per text message, 10 cents per minute of talk, 25 cents per picture message, 35 cents daily access charge (about $10 a month), and unlimited AIM for $6.99 per month. There is no extra charge for domestic long distance, no long-term contracts, no activation costs, no early termination fees and no hidden fees!

You can purchase your child's kajeet phone service online or at Best Buy, Limited Too and Longs Drugs!
